Profile For Morrie Louden
Morrie Louden
Bassist/Composer Morrie Louden is known as one of the most virtuosic bass players of our era. His ability to electrify live audiences with his mind numbing technique and melodic story telling has brought him great recognition and popularity.
Morrie was born into a musically inclined family on September 16, 1960 in Concord, CA. Electric bass was his first instrument, which he began playing at the age of twelve, followed by acoustic bass studies a year later. By age fourteen, Morrie was already performing with local bands in the best clubs in the Bay area. His dedication to his craft through high school led him to a music scholarship at De Anza College in California, the Bay area’s finest jazz school.
After graduating in 1980, Morrie toured the world with many pop icons such as Engelbert Humperdinck, Barbra Streisand, The 5th Dimension, Paul Anka, and many more. These experiences led him to perform with The New York Philharmonic, The Philadelphia Symphony Orchestra and the London Symphony orchestra at Royal Albert Hall.
In the nineties, Morrie formed his own group featuring well-known jazz soloists Bob Sheppard, Carl Fontana, Rick Margitza, Eric Marianthal, Ralph Moore, and Brandon Fields as well as several others. It was during this time he found his lifetime bass, a three hundred year old Pietro Rogeri, circa 1713.
In 1996, he built the superb MoSound Recording Studios in Las Vegas, Nevada. A state-of-the-art recording facility where he spent much time writing, composing and producing.
After relocating to New York in 2005, Morrie played in various Jazz clubs in Manhattan establishing his name while also concentrating on composing and recording his new CD, "Time Piece". "Time Piece" is simply one of the best collections of modern jazz to date. It was recorded, mixed and mastered at two of the finest studios in New York - Avatar Studios (formerly The Power Station) and Sterling Sound. "Time Piece" features a cast of jazz greats such as Adam Nussbaum and Gary Novak on drums, Bob Sheppard and Seamus Blake on saxophone, Alex Sipiagin on trumpet, Edward Simon on piano, Lionel Leouke on guitar, string and horn arrangements by Gil Goldstein, and the sensual voice of Jazz newcomer Gretchen Parlato. "Time Piece" is a bonafide classic.
Chick Corea recently wrote Morrie saying, "Time Piece is a killer! Man, that’s some creative and inspiring music you’ve made! And, _ _ _ _ , you tear the bass UP!" Chick Corea was so impressed with Morrie’s talent that he was inspired to sit in with Morrie for an entire set at one of his recent performances.
"You are a monster on the bass, and I can’t begin to describe the amount of excitement and joy I felt hearing you play. Truly, I was blown away by your extraordinary musicianship and the unique techniques you developed in communicating your message. It’s strong and wonderful." - Gary Karr - World's greatest classical bassist.
The Morrie Louden Group is currently booking tour dates around the US and Europe to promote Morrie's new CD "Time Piece."
