Azar Lawrence was sideman for McCoy Tyner, Miles Davis, Elvin Jones & writer and composer for Earth, Wind & Fire. The formidable saxophonist released Legacy and Music of John Coltrane, ’06, Speak the Word, ’08, and Prayer For My Ancestors, 09. Azar’s new production, Mystic Journey is slated for release Spring 2010. Mystic Journey, features Benito Gonzalez, Eddie Henderson, Gerald Hayes, Essiet Essiet and the late great drummer Rashied Ali. Benito Gonzalez from New York via Venezuela is the winner of the 2005 Great American Piano Competition award. Jazz in his bones, he describes his music style as "hardcore" as in of the New York avant garde era. Benito played with Kenny Garrett for several years and is one jazz's premiere pianist. Lorca Hart has worked consistently in a variety of musical situations, playing with many of the West Coast's (and beyond) finest artists including Calvin Keys, Kyle Eastwood, Herman Riley, Azar Lawrence, Red Holloway, Plas Johnson, John Heard, Danny Grissett, Justo Almario, Bennie Maupin, Phil Ranelin, Dave Pike, Ralph Moore, Don Menza, Hugh Masekela, Bobby Rodriguez, the Clayton Brother's. Tony Dumas was born in Los Angeles California on October 1, 1955. By the age of 14, he started playing bass and studying in the high school orchestra and went on to study music at Pasadena City College. He first started playing professionally with Organist Johnny Hammond Smith then went on to play with Trumpeter Freddie Hubbard. He has toured, played and recorded with the likes of: Herbie Hancock, Carmen McCrae, Sarah Vaughan, Joe Williams, The Manhattan Transfer, Chick Corea, Etta James, Mariah Carey,Bill Cosby (playboy jazz festival band), Patrice Rushen and the list goes on and on. Azar and Benito are touring this year throughout the country. This will be Azar's first performance in Los Angeles in 2010 and his premiere west coast appearance with the great pianist Benito Gonzalez.
